Community Hubs

What are community hubs?

Community Emergency Hubs are local, community-led spaces designed to support residents during and after emergencies. These hubs are activated by volunteers, not official services, and serve as a place where people can:

  • Share and gather information about the situation.
  • Offer and request help, skills, and resources.
  • Coordinate efforts to address immediate needs like shelter, food, or medical support.

Whether it’s a severe storm, flood, or other disaster, Community Emergency Hubs empower neighbours to come together and support one another when official services may be delayed.

How hubs are used in emergencies:

When disaster strikes:

  1. Check on your household and neighbours.
  2. If further support is needed, visit your local Community Hub.
  3. At the hub, you’ll find:
    • A space to connect with others in your community.
    • A place to share skills, resources, and information.
    • Opportunities to collaborate on solutions for challenges like shelter, medical needs, and food.

Hubs are a vital resource for ensuring that no one is left behind during an emergency.

Want to register your facility as a community hub?
